Whilst to some it may come as a surprise to see a VL Commodore in the Open Class at World Time Attack, to Melbourne based plumber Jason Clements, it is realisation of a boyhood dream. You see ever since he was a kid, Jason has always had a fascination with the Nissan powered Commodore from the late eighties. Whilst most other VL Commodore enthusiasts normally follow the well beaten path to the drag strip or show arena, this was never going to be the case for Jason Clements. After several years on the street with all the usual modifications the vehicle was making a stout 380KW at the wheels the bug bit hard and the vehicle was stripped bare with a dedicated effort to build Australia’s best Time Attack Commodore.

2010 HyperREV Super Lap Battle Preview

There's a long list of annual events AVO participates in worldwide, with the HyperREV Tsukuba Super Lap Battle being the big punctuation mark on the end of the year. The Super Lap is the final big time attack for Japan, held at the infamous Tsukuba Circuit. AVO Japan (www.avosubaru.com, www.avojdm.com) has been fielding it's famous black STI widebody at the event for several years now, and have slowly but surely improving our times. The car has gone from 1m2sec times around the circuit to breaking the big 1 minute barrier with a 59 second lap last year.

AVO DBW Throttle Controller

The latest product from our R&D team is here! The AVO DBW (Drive By Wire) Throttle Control unit is a neat bit of electronics that gives you a variety of power and economy settings for your DBW vehicle.

It arrived in the mail on Friday afternoon, about 30 minutes before we were to take our 2007 Subaru Outback to a big event! Luckily it takes all of about 10 minutes to install (provided you follow the instructions). Setting it up for the car did not take that long at all. While it's not going to magically wring 50whp out of the car, it did improve throttle response immensely in the Power mode (Po6 was the best compromise on this particular vehicle).

Winton Race Report From Clayton Sinclair

I was really happy with how the car was running at the last event, but felt that I hadn’t quite keyed into the new set up and felt that there was more that I could get out of the car. I was keen to really push the car hard at Winton and find out what it could really do. With setting a new WRX Club record, I was stoked with the results of the day and feel that I have started to wrap my head around the new dynamics of the car.

Race Report – Sandown June 2010

There was a fair bit of anticipation leading up to the Sandown event. We had plenty of time to prepare the car for Sandown, so no excuses in terms of vehicle preparation… I have plenty of experience at Sandown, so no excuses for the driver either… Hmmm, no pressure…
